Hi! I'm Kelly Wyszomierski (pronounced "wiz-MER-skee"), and welcome to Musically Inclined!
I received by Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education (choral emphasis) from Penn State in 2008, with piano as my primary instrument. I had the opportunity to study piano with Dr. Timothy Shafer, and I learned a great deal from him about how to teach students not only what to practice, but how to practice it. I also sang with several of the university's choirs and began my training as a choral conductor while at Penn State.
For 5 years after graduating from Penn State, I taught middle school choral music in West Hartford, CT. In West Hartford, I got to observe and work with absolutely amazing music teachers who taught all different levels. During this time, I took several years of voice lessons and taught my first private piano lessons.
I am currently finishing my Masters of Music degree in Choral Conducting at Temple University. There, I study with Dr. Paul Rardin, Dr. Mitos Andaya-Hart, and Dr. Rollo Dilworth. In my two years at Temple, I've sung in all of the university's choirs, and programmed, rehearsed, and presented two masters conducting recitals. I've also taught two years of undergraduate conducting and worked with student conductors of varying ability levels to refine and improve their conducting gesture.
In addition to teaching private lessons, I serve as Associate Conductor for The Choristers. The Choristers is an auditioned concert choir based in Lansdale that presents two concerts each year. The spring concert is always a choral/orchestral masterwork; recent repertoire includes Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah, Anton Bruckner's Mass in E Minor, and J. S. Bach's Magnificat. Get more info about The Choristers at www.thechoristers.org. I also will be joining the staff of the Pennsylvania Youth Chorale beginning in Fall 2015. PYC is an auditioned children's chorus based in the Huntingdon Valley that serves elementary and middle school students looking for additional singing opportunities. You can get more info about PYC at http://www.pennsylvaniayouthchorale.com.
Outside of my musical pursuits, I am an avid cook and baker- I love making delicious things for my family and friends! I also enjoy reading, traveling, and skiing in the winter. My husband Steve and I were married in 2010 and have a beautiful, four-legged, black long-haired "child" named Cocoa. She is the true head of our household!
